What's Included
Description
If you only have a day to explore the Big Island, then an all-inclusive volcano tour from Oahu with a knowledgeable guide is a must. The Oahu to Hilo Volcano Adventure tour package eliminates all the guesswork to maximize your limited time on the island.
This all-inclusive volcano tour from Oahu will take you to all the top attractions: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, historic Hilo, waterfalls, and rainforests. Plus, the tour also includes round-trip airfare, ground transportation, guided tour, entrance fees, and even a scenic picnic lunch.

Early morning flight to Hilo: You’ll be booked on an early morning inter-island flight from Oahu to Hilo. The average flight time for this journey is 50 minutes. Upon arrival, your driver/tour guide will meet you at a designated spot just outside the terminal.
Volcano Tour from Oahu Highlights:
Akaka Falls: The first activity on this volcano tour from Oahu is a short hike through a lush rainforest that will take you to the viewing platform for the thundering 442-foot Akaka Falls. The route to the waterfall and back is a short .5-mile walk along a paved and well-marked trail, with a few stairs along the way.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: Guests on the volcano tour from Oahu will spend the afternoon exploring the remnants of eruptions past and present. Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park is home to both Kilauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes. Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, but we cannot guarantee that lava will be visible on the day of your visit.
Your day in the park will look like this:
- You’ll visit Halema’uma’u Crater, located within the main caldera at Kilauea's summit.
- You'll stop to view the exhibits at the Visitor Center.
- There will also be a stop to view the steam vents up close.
- You'll get an opportunity to walk on a lava field and see what cooled lava looks and feels like up close.
- You'll walk through the Nahuku Lava Tube. The walk through the lava tube is short and easy, and the inside of the lava tube is lit as well.
- You will get to enjoy a scenic picnic lunch somewhere in the park.
- You'll be able to explore the public areas of the historic Volcano House Hotel and do a little souvenir shopping in its gift shop if there is time.
- Your tour guide will also take you for a drive along the scenic Chain of Craters Road and stop at a few scenic overlooks.

Other Stops on the Volcano Tour from Oahu:
Rainbow Falls: This waterfall is much smaller than Akaka Falls, but the 80-foot-tall Rainbow Falls can be just as impressive. When the sunlight hits just right, it creates rainbows in the mist below, making it one of the best places on your volcano tour from Oahu for photos.
Hilo Town: Your volcano tour from Oahu winds down with a scenic drive through Hilo’s historic district, along its famous Banyan Drive, and past Liliuokalani Gardens, black sand beaches, and the statue of King Kamehameha the Great. If there's enough time, your driver may stop at a local business for a sweet treat or spend extra time at one or all of these attractions.
Evening flight back to Oahu: You’ll arrive back at the Hilo airport with plenty of time to grab a bite to eat before your early evening return flight to Oahu. Guests on the volcano tour from Oahu usually arrive in Honolulu between 7 and 8 pm, though this is always subject to change. Transportation from the Honolulu airport to your lodging is not included with the volcano tour from Oahu.
Note: There is also a volcano tour from Oahu that includes the tour described above, plus a 50-minute helicopter ride over Kilauea Volcano and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Click here for more information on the Oahu to Hilo Volcano Tour + Helicopter.
