Doors Open Helicopter Ride: Feel The Heat!

Circle Island Helicopter Tour: Volcanoes, Waterfalls and More

Feeling the heat of the erupting volcano from the highest vantage point will be one of many memorable moments on this adventure. This circle island tour provides a doors-open helicopter ride around the highlights of the island, including:

Starting with a behind-the-scenes view of the origination of world-famous Kona coffee.

We’ll head south over some of the many coffee plantations of the region where red coffee cherries are picked from these trees and the perfect cup of coffee is born. This will bring a new level of appreciation from here on out to your morning cup of joe.

Then, we’ll pass over Black Sands Beach and make our way to the fiery, active volcano region.

This beach has a population of wild sea turtles that swim up to nap on the beach and is also close to Green Sands Beach and South Point, a cliff renown as the southernmost point of the United States. You will often know we’re approaching the volcano region as the sky darkens and the air smells like sulfur. We’ll fly into Kilauea crater and get as close to the molten lava as the volcano Goddess, Pele, will safely allow. With the helicopter doors off and bubbling, glowing lava below, this will be an experience like no other!

For a change in scenery, we’ll fly over the tropical rainforests on the eastern side of the island.

While Hawaii usually conjures up images of sandy beaches, the ocean and gently swaying palm trees, the Big Island is actually home to 10 different climate zones. The largely untouched expansive rainforests as seen from the air will provide another level of breathtaking you were probably not expecting.

Next, we’ll bypass hours of grueling hiking to land in a remote area of Kohala and follow in the footsteps of an ancient Hawaiian King.

We’ll take an easy walk through beautiful valleys roamed by King Kamehameha I in his childhood. This is another one-of-a-kind helicopter experience you probably won’t find anywhere else and great way to explore the northern areas of the island.

Finally, we’ll fly over white sand beaches and nearby resorts en route back to Kona.

This is the part where you’ll see hotels and waterfront mansions near crashing waves of coastal beaches to remind you that yes, even after all of that breathtaking, diverse, and seemingly untouched landscape, you’re still in the tropical paradise of Hawaii.

The tour will be fully narrated by your experienced pilot who will describe points of interest and identify coastlines and the many natural waterfalls. You will have two-way communication with your pilot and group over the headsets provided. This tour is a great way to decide which areas of the island you would like to further explore on land for the remainder of your trip, or to round out your time on the island by revisiting many popular sights from the air.

Total tour duration is approximately 3 hours, including our time on the ground in Kohala. It departs and lands at the Kona airport. This tour is suitable for all ages, including children, adults, and seniors.

The flight into the green caverns was amazing. Absolutely the best way to start your stay on the Big Island. We all enjoyed the guided tour and of course the view was excellent. We were lucky with a very clear day.

SPECTACULAR!! AMAZING!! SUPERB!! Add about 30 more adjectives and you will get an idea of how fun this was. Our pilot, CHRIS, was a Marine helicopter pilot for a couple of decades, and took us up close and personal into the narrowest of canyons, with 4 waterfalls each a few hundred feet high flowing heavily, and we were right next to them. Definitely worth the money. By the way, I was in the middle seat and still had an awesome view!

What a great experience! Our pilot, Troy was exceptional in telling the story of the Big Island. He took us up close and personal with the volcano and its amazing history. Had a great trip. Well worth time and money. Lots of fun, interesting, and beautiful sights.

Got to see so much of the island from a totally different view which was breathtaking! I think this was our favorite thing that we did all week and we did a lot! Friendly staff, smooth ride, and gorgeous views. What more could we ask? If you can do this one while you are there… DO IT!

The helicopter tour was absolutely fantastic. The staff was excellent and professional – very helpful from start to finish.  Our Pilot Dan was awesome! There are views of the Island you can only see from plane or helicopter. It was beautiful!

This tour is the best way to see the island. Koji (our pilot) and the ground staff were awesome. Loved the flight as well as the gorgeous landing site.   We flew over the Volcanoes National Park and hovered above flowing lava within the volcano. Danny flew us in several directions above the lava so both sides of the helicopter could view/take pictures of the lava. He changed directions many times on this trip to allow both sides to get gret views. HIGHLY recommend!

Ryan our pilot was AWESOME!! This was our first time in a helicopter and have to admit we were a little nervous! No reason to be nervous at all! Such a smooth ride! My husband 85 had this on his bucket list. Well worth the cost. Thank you.

This is an incredible overall view of the big island that you will not experience from the ground. It was a great way to start off our 10 day Hawaiian adventure! We really enjoyed it all. Landing was fun for a quick stop over.

Fortunately we had fairly good weather and the windward side we got to see great water falls and valleys. We spent an hour having a picnic and hiking around. We made a lot of memories on this flight, and cannot thank Chris our pilot enough. I would absolutely recommend everyone do this. There is a point where you are looking at the cost and going that’s a lot of money for 3 hours but trust me, just do it. The money will come and go but the memories from this ride will last forever.

Our pilot gave us great information, made us feel safe and gave us a smooth, beautiful ride. This was certainly the most exciting and memorable experience of our trip to Hawaii. This tour was amazing! ‘Nuff said!
