Kona: Volcano Kohala Landing

Doors Open Helicopter Ride: Feel The Heat!

Circle Island Helicopter Tour: Volcanoes, Waterfalls and More

Feeling the heat of the erupting volcano from the highest vantage point will be one of many memorable moments on this adventure. This circle island tour provides a doors-open helicopter ride around the highlights of the island, including:

Starting with a behind-the-scenes view of the origination of world-famous Kona coffee.

We’ll head south over some of the many coffee plantations of the region where red coffee cherries are picked from these trees and the perfect cup of coffee is born. This will bring a new level of appreciation from here on out to your morning cup of joe.

Then, we’ll pass over Black Sands Beach and make our way to the fiery, active volcano region.

This beach has a population of wild sea turtles that swim up to nap on the beach and is also close to Green Sands Beach and South Point, a cliff renown as the southernmost point of the United States. You will often know we’re approaching the volcano region as the sky darkens and the air smells like sulfur. We’ll fly into Kilauea crater and get as close to the molten lava as the volcano Goddess, Pele, will safely allow. With the helicopter doors off and bubbling, glowing lava below, this will be an experience like no other!

For a change in scenery, we’ll fly over the tropical rainforests on the eastern side of the island.

While Hawaii usually conjures up images of sandy beaches, the ocean and gently swaying palm trees, the Big Island is actually home to 10 different climate zones. The largely untouched expansive rainforests as seen from the air will provide another level of breathtaking you were probably not expecting.

Next, we’ll bypass hours of grueling hiking to land in a remote area of Kohala and follow in the footsteps of an ancient Hawaiian King.

We’ll take an easy walk through beautiful valleys roamed by King Kamehameha I in his childhood. This is another one-of-a-kind helicopter experience you probably won’t find anywhere else and great way to explore the northern areas of the island.

Finally, we’ll fly over white sand beaches and nearby resorts en route back to Kona.

This is the part where you’ll see hotels and waterfront mansions near crashing waves of coastal beaches to remind you that yes, even after all of that breathtaking, diverse, and seemingly untouched landscape, you’re still in the tropical paradise of Hawaii.

The tour will be fully narrated by your experienced pilot who will describe points of interest and identify coastlines and the many natural waterfalls. You will have two-way communication with your pilot and group over the headsets provided. This tour is a great way to decide which areas of the island you would like to further explore on land for the remainder of your trip, or to round out your time on the island by revisiting many popular sights from the air.

Total tour duration is approximately 3 hours, including our time on the ground in Kohala. It departs and lands at the Kona airport. This tour is suitable for all ages, including children, adults, and seniors.
